Week In Review: July 6th – July 12th

This week my main goal with reading was to catch up with my yearly reading goal, which sits at 120 books. I’ve been behind for a long time now and i’m slowly but surely catching up with the amount of books I should have read by now. For this reason I’ve only read romance books this week, as they’re very quick to read for me.

Title: Blurred Lines

Author: Lauren Layne

Genre: Romance

Page Count: 221 pages

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This is a friends to lovers romance and to be honest it wasn’t a book I enjoyed that much. It was quick to read and easy to follow but I found myself not really caring about neither the plot nor the characters. I think it has more to do with me not really caring for friends to lovers than the book being bad though.

Title: Deviant King

Author: Rina Kent

Genre: Romance

Page Count: 360 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5.

After finding the Lauren Layne book boring I decided the way to go would be to read a dark romance. And it did the trick, it was a lot more immersive and i found myself actually caring about the plot as well as the characters. I would recommend this series if you enjoy dark romances and are looking for something quick to read.

Title:
Steel Princess

Author: Rina Kent

Genre: Romance

Page Count: 344 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This book was good, it had an extra level of angst the first one didn’t, and that’s something I enjoy immensely. It felt a little dragged out at times, but not enough to make the reading experience worse or even slow down my reading of the book.

Title:
Twisted Kingdom

Author: Rina Kent

Genre: Romance

Page Count: 358 pages

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is the last book in the trilogy of the original couple in this series. I will admit that their story was very drawn out at times and it would have worked better as a duology, but this book was definitely the best of the three. It introduced new characters as well as having more of an emotional storyline.

Title:
Black Knight

Author: Rina Kent

Genre: Romance

Page Count: 326 pages

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This book has a number of issues, most of which can be seen in the trigger warning in the start of the book. I enjoyed that the plot of these two characters only spanned one book, it requires less attention from my side on plot points.

Title: Introductions

Author: C.L. Stone

Genre: Young Adult Romance

Page Count: 206 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This series is my biggest guilty pleasure, this is already my 3 time reading the series, and it has 12 books at the moment. This was one of the reasons i decided to re-read it though, I knew the books are easy to read and there are so many of them I’ll be able to get closer to the goal faster.

Title: First Days

Author: C.L. Stone

Genre: Young Adult Romance

Page Count: 280 pages

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This book is the one where things start to actually pick up, we start learning more about the characters as well as world-building. It neatly sets up the rest of the series and creates a nice background for the drama and relationships developed later on in the series.

Title: Friends VS. Family

Author: C.L. Stone

Genre: Young Adult Romance

Page Count: 438 pages

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This book ups the drama from the previous books quite a bit, it builds even further on the lore surrounding the academy. We also learn more about the home-life of the main character, and how it resulted in the home life we’ve seen in the previous books.
